Social skills are the skills necessary to get along with others and form constructive relationships. Social and relationship skills significantly determine success or failure. Whether at home,
in school, on the job or in the community, people relationships are a central part of daily living. Effective skills lead to positive relationships
and positive outcomes. Ineffective skills lead
to relationship problems and
negative consequences.
Project CLASS concentrates attention on young children and on a defined curriculum of vital basic social skills. These core building block skills
are the starting point for positive relationship development and are the elemental foundation for more complex skills development in the future.
Project CLASS social skills include Paying Attention, Listening, Looking at the Person Talking, Following Instructions, Accepting Feedback, Accepting No as an Answer, and Using Kind Words. These and other Project CLASS skills are the building blocks of relationship formation and the development of values and character.
